At least 89% of Guinean voters approved a new constitution through a referendum held on September 21. Transitional president General Mamady Doumbouya is yet to announce whether he would seek election. When the military ousted President Alpha Conde in 2021, it initially said it would return the country to civilian rule by 2024. It, however, postponed the planned return to civilian rule.
